Specializing in civil trial and appellate work, James R. Cartwright's practice focuses on litigation involving estates and trusts, breaches of fiduciary duties, elder financial abuse and disputes regarding real and personal property. In addition, he has experience in fraud, racketeering, construction, wrongful death and personal injury litigation.
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Mr. Cartwright earned his law degree from the University of Oregon Law School and was admitted to the Oregon State Bar in 1975.

Matthew Whitman received his undergraduate degree in history from the University of Oregon in 1995 before receiving his law degree from Lewis and Clark College's Northwestern School of Law in 1998, where he received the Robert E. Jones Award for Trial Advocacy. He was admitted to practice before Oregon state and federal courts in 1998, and before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in 2003.Mr. Whitman's current practice is made up exclusively of complex probate and trust litigation at the trial and appellate levels. His extensive trial experience has included complex automotive crashworthiness litigation, personal injury, domestic relations, and business contracts disputes, and he has handled state and federal appellate cases of significant public interest.

Sibylle Baer graduated from the University of Florida in 1987 with a Bachelors of Science in Forest Resources and Conservation. She graduated from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College in 1992. From 1992 until 2006, Ms. Baer was a trial lawyer specializing in criminal and juvenile law. Ms. Baer’s trial practice emphasized dependency cases and complex termination of parental rights cases on behalf of both parents and children.Ms. Baer joined Cartwright and Associates in September 2006. She is currently handling litigation involving estates and trusts, breaches of fiduciary duties, elder financial abuse, guardianships and conservatorships, and disputes regarding real and personal property. She is admitted to practice in Oregon, Washington, and Federal courts.

Michelle Johansson received her undergraduate degree in Humanities from Providence College in 1993. She taught elementary school in the San Francisco Bay Area before deciding to pursue law. Ms. Johansson received her law degree from Lewis and Clark Law School in 2005 and was selected as a member of the Cornelius Honor Society.
Prior to joining Cartwright and Associates, Ms. Johansson served as the judicial law clerk to the Honorable Henry Kantor, Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge. Ms. Johansson’s areas of practice include estate administration and estate and trust litigation.
During tax season, Ms. Johansson volunteers with the AARP’s Tax Aide program which provides free income tax preparation for seniors and low-income individuals. She also currently serves as the Treasurer of The Northwest Selects, a non-profit organization that promotes the growth and expansion of female hockey.

Born in Denver, Colorado, Henry has been an Oregon resident since 1969. He graduated from David Douglas High School in Portland before obtaining his Bachelor's degree in history from the University of Oregon. He is a longtime resident of northeast Portland.
